Refractive Lens Exchange

Refractive Lens Exchange is a surgical corrective procedure reserved for people with moderate to high degrees of nearsightedness or farsightedness with or without presbyopia. During the procedure the natural lens of the eye is removed and replaced with an artificial lens (IOL), similar to cataract surgery.

There are two basic types of IOLs used. Monofocal lenses provide corrective power in only one segment of your visual range (typically distance vision). Multifocal lenses are designed to correct a range of vision—near through distance.
